The 2023 Hope Gala blossomed under the heartfelt theme of “Planting Seeds of Hope.” The evening was a showcase of unity and togetherness. From the heartfelt opening prayer led by Jeremy Polson, Gabriel’ Polson’s ‘s dad, to the engaging skit by emcee’s Shannon and Lindsey, every moment reinforced the sense of community that drives the Super Sam Foundation forward.
Cassie, Sam’s mom, shared the announcement of the National Cancer Institute increased funding for childhood cancer research, which was met with both gratitude and determination. While progress has been made from the original mantra #morethan4, there is still a long way to go, and the rallying cry of #greaterthan8 echoed through the room, inspiring everyone present to advocate for further advancements in research and treatments.
So fitting that the room was adorned with sunflowers, Wyatt’s favorite bloom, as we announced the addition of a new chapter – the Wyatt’s Warrior division of the Super Sam Foundation. Like the sunflower, each petal, a testament to the resilience and strength that fueled the event, resonated with the spirit of a young warrior, Wyatt Charley Salmons.
The evening was not just a celebration of the progress made by the Super Sam Foundation but also a poignant reminder of the challenges that children with cancer and their families face every day. Through the heartfelt words of our Ava’s Avengers speakers, Lauren (Wyatt’s cousin), Zephe (Ezra’s sister), and Ava (Sam’s sister), attendees gained a deeper understanding of the profound impact the foundation has on the lives of these young heroes and their siblings. Their stories served as testaments to strength and the power of community support.
The evening was full of hope and lots of laughter during the lively game of Heads or Tails. Excitement and suspense intensified throughout the evening in anticipation for the raffle drawings – the KT Diamond Jewelers necklace, Baumgartner’s Furniture massage chair, and raffle island prizes. And if you’ve attended the Gala in prior years, you know that Kevin Wilkerson’s infectious energy is sure to engage the audience, eliciting not just bids but genuine laughter during our live auction.
