Why Research Matters

“Mommy, why do I have cancer?” “Will I beat it?” “Will I meet God?” — These are all questions a parent is faced with answering when their child is fighting cancer. As a parent, watching your child fight this monster of a disease is the worst experience imaginable. But what is worse is knowing that the treatments they are receiving are 20-30 years old and is simply diluted adult treatments. We need a cure. We need treatment designed for kids. The most recent drugs that were approved by the FDA were funded by private foundations who are determined to right this wrong. We are here to help in the fight, to help fund the gap for “All the Kids”.

Why Research?

  • A child shouldn’t even know cancer is a bad word. Yet 1 in every 285 children will be diagnosed by the time they are 20.
  • Each day, 46 children are diagnosed with cancer, and 7 die from the disease.
  • Only 8% of all federal funding is allocated for pediatrics, and that simply is not enough.
  • Our kids are our future; they are the best of us. They deserve better.

Since our inception in late 2014, we have funded more than $500,000 in research! That is all thanks to you! We continue to be humbled by the generosity of our dedicated supporters, sponsors and volunteers.

We also want to thank our grant recipients, cc-TDI and Oncoheroes, for their diligence in working toward better treatments for our heroes in the fight.

Our kids deserve a fighting chance.

Our Goal #GreaterThan8

The Super Sam Foundation raises awareness to the need for funding, and it starts right here. We support pediatric research funding in the area of soft tissue sarcoma. Sam had Rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of a soft tissue sarcoma. Our funding will be centered around this. Rhabdomyosarcoma is rare in childhood cancer and receives very little of an already insufficient amount of funding. I promised Sam we would do everything we can. To lose a child is unbearable, and knowing that he was only seen as being worth 4% is UNACCEPTABLE! Every child is worth more than 4%! They are our future. They are the ones who will find a cure, but we MUST give them the chance at their future!

Our voices are being heard on Capitol Hill and funding has been increased to 8%, but we’re not stopping until we have a cure! The Super Sam Foundation has a goal to fund at least one research grant each year. The remainder of the funds we raise will go to support the children we refer to as Heroes in the Fight by providing Super Sam Comfort Packs. To the Families in the Fight, we will send Ava’s Avengers Sibling Support Packs and Super Caregiver Support Packs. These comforting and practical gifts continue providing a moment of joy to “All the Kids.”

Be a HERO to kids with cancer… let’s show them they are greater than 8%!

Research Grants

Here are a few of our grant announcements that briefly explain how each grant is helping “All the Kids!” We thank our grant recipients, cc-TDI and Oncoheroes, for their diligence in working toward better treatments for our heroes in the fight. And we thank YOU, our amazing supporters, for making these grants possible! Since we began in late 2014 we have funded more than $500,000 in pediatric cancer research! That is all thanks to you! We continue to be humbled by the generosity of our dedicated supporters, sponsors and volunteers.
